In English, we will further our writing skills to ensure that we are writing sentences which make sense. We will be expanding our vocabulary by including interesting adjectives, verbs and adverbs in our writing too! Writing genres will include, stories, descriptions, letters, diaries and non-chronological reports.
Year_2 2019-2020 Curriculum Topics
In Maths, we will be developing our arithmetic knowledge further by using our number knowledge to help us work out an answer efficiently.
We will also look at fractions (half, quarters and thirds) of shapes, objects and amounts.
Finally, we will be leanring to tell the time to half past, quarter to/past and in 5 minutes intervals on an analogue clock.
Our geography focus will be on the UK and it's four countries. We will look closely at each country and identify their traditions, describe their landscape and find any famous landmarks. We will develop our atlas skills as well as using Ariel photographs to understand landscapes.
Spring 19/20
In history, we will be learning about the Great Fire of London. We will explore its cause, why it spread and compare fire safety from 1066 to modern day. We will also look at different ways in which the Great Fire has been represented, including looking at the significant individual, Samuel Peyps.
In computing, we will be looking at algorithms and how they support a computer to work. We will also look at how algorithms are used to improve programs.
Our science topic for the term is 'Living things and their habitats'. We will begin by exploring large, World habitats before looking closer to home. We will see why animals are adapted to suit certain types of habitats better than others.
In art, we will be researching the sculptor, Antony Gormley, before practising out sculpting skills ready to make our own version of the Angel of the North.
