Year_1 Summer 2 Curriculum Topics
In maths, our first area of learning will be time. We will be reading and recording the time to o’clock, half past and introducing quarter past and quarter to. We will also be measuring lengths of time such as seconds, minutes and hours. We will then go onto consolidating number knowledge to 100 including partitioning, securing number bonds to 20 then moving onto addition and subtraction.
In science our unit of work will be animals and humans. We will be naming and classifying different animals and then grouping them into reptiles, birds, fish, mammals and amphibians. We will be naming the body parts of a human and looking at different senses and what they’re used for.
Amazing Animals
In art we will be practising our sketching skills to sketch different animals. We will also be using clay to mould different animals looking carefully at their shape.
In geography we will be focusing on consolidating our knowledge of the United Kingdom and the surrounding seas by thinking about which animals may live there and begin to compare that to other animals from around the world. We will also be looking at beach and arctic habitats for animals.
In history we will look at famous people who have contributed to the animal knowledge that we have now such as Charles Darwin and David Attenborough.
In PE we will continue to work on our team game skills. PE will continue to be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (Wednesdays with Mrs Wright).
