In English we will be reading 'The Legend of Beowulf' and basing our writing on the text. We will be completing role-play, character descriptions, summaries and even our own alternative versions of the legend. In addition to this we will be finding out as much as we can about the Vikings and compiling our own information texts about them.
Year_5 Y5 Autumn Two 2018 Curriculum Topics
In Maths we will be continuing to learn about fractions, decimals and percentages. We will then move on to looking at measurement and converting between different units of measure.
This half term we will be learning about materials and how their properties mean that they have different uses. We will be testing the durability of certain materials and also learning about dissolving and filtering.
What was Britain like when the Vikings ruled?
Our Tuesday PE lessons will be dance lessons and our Wednesday lessons will focus on ball skills, including tennis. We will try to be outside as much as possible during our Wednesday lessons so please ensure you have appropriate kit for the winter weather.
Our art lessons will continue to be taught by Mrs Brailsford next half term. We will be practising a variety of different skills including sketching, painting and clay modelling.
This half term we will be focusing on Christianity: what Christians believe, how they show their commitment to God and looking a bit deeper into the Christmas story.
Through our Viking topic we will be learning about what life was like in Britain during the Viking era. This will include looking into their way of life: what they ate and drank, the jobs they did, what children did, the clothes they wore etc.
